House (2100 sq. ft.) in Panacea, FL
0 miles from Apalachee Bay
Welcome to our “Fun Beach House with Pool!” Our home is both fun and peaceful for an unforgettable family and friends get-away. Come enjoy our double decks where you can BBQ, relax and enjoy the pool. Our house is located on the canal and across the street from the beach. From our upper deck, come watch the sunsets and stargaze at night. Our two-story home is set up with two separate living quarters with separate entrances. Upstairs has a large open kitchen and living space with two bedrooms, two full baths and a sleeping loft with two twin mattresses. Our downstairs comes with an open kitchen and living space with two bedrooms and one full bathroom. The entire house can be used as a four-bedroom house for large families or two separate living areas for larger groups. Bring your beach gear with you, so you can take a stroll across the street to the endless beaches of Alligator Point. Public beach access is across the street on Alligator Point Drive to the left of the house. Pick up shells, make sandcastles, watch the seagulls, and see the dolphins around sunset. Or you can fish right off the beach! Join our family tradition: Grab a drink at sunset, walk down to the beach and see the bright pink sky over the water as the sun disappears over the horizon. Whether you are coming here to chill, fish, or play, our “Fun Beach House” is cheery and comfy with a variety of spots to play games, read a book, or take a splash in the pool. Both of our eat-in open kitchens with breakfast bars (down and upstairs) are equipped with basic kitchen needs to cook family meals. We also have two grills, one charcoal and the other gas. We either bring fish straight from our fishing excursions or from our favorite fresh fish store “My Way” in Panacea to grill and eat either outside or in! Both upstairs or down has flat screen TVs with cable, in case you can’t miss a game. And the house is equipped with wifi. If you have ANY questions about the house before or during your stay please don’t hesitate to reach out! We welcome your visit to our Fun Beach House. Come and enjoy anytime!

Condo (874 sq. ft.) in Panacea, FL
0 miles from Apalachee Bay
Shorts & Shades, Panacea, FL on Ochlockonee Bay Put on your 'shorts and shades' and join us for a relaxing escape from your every day routine. Our comfortable 1 bedroom/1 bath condo is located on the 2nd floor (Unit F13) of George's Lighthouse Pointe on Ochlockonee Bay, 40 miles south of Tallahassee on Hwy. 98. Right outside our front door is a balcony where you can enjoy a gorgeous view of the bay. To the back of us, there is a wonderful view of the marina. Just a few steps away is Angelo's Restaurant, regularly voted as one of the 'Top 100 Restaurants in Florida'. Angelo's boasts mouth watering seafood (and other dishes), with indoor seating and casual outdoor seating right over the water! We offer 874 sq. ft. of living area, which includes 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, den, kitchen and balcony overlooking the bay. The family area is furnished with comfortable den furniture, 34 in. TV, DVD, and offers a great view of the bay. This area is is separated from the kitchen by a bar. Our bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed and a twin bed and a small hideaway cot (suitable for a child under age 10). These accommodations will sleep 3 to 4 people comfortably. Perfect for a couple or small family. The fishing is as good as it gets in this area. You can fish in the bay, head out for deep-sea fishing, or go down the river for fresh water fishing. We have it all!!! You can book a fishing charter with your choice of licensed captains, who are ready to take you out for an experience that you won't soon forget! Although many fishermen prefer to bring their own boat, boat trailers are not allowed in the common areas of George's Lighthouse Pointe and the condo only has one parking space. Another local attraction are the beaches. The closest beach is Mashes Sands in Panacea (less than 1 mi.). It offers a beautiful, small beach. The beach is located on the bay and is pretty shallow for a good ways out, offering safety for small children and a great opportunity for shelling. Next are the gorgeous beaches at Alligator Point and Bald Point State Park (about 7 mi.), where you can enjoy sunbathing, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, bird watching and nature study. Within a few minutes drive are two of the nation's TOP TEN RATED BEACHES, St. George Island State Park, near Apalachicola, and St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, near Port St. Joe. Both parks contain miles of undeveloped beaches, emerald waters and white sugar sand. Other nearby attractions include St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge, an unspoiled barrier island just offshore from the mouth of the Apalachicola River in the Gulf of Mexico. The island is a haven for endangered and threatened species, including bald eagles, wood storks, sea turtles, indigo snakes, gopher tortoises and red wolves. It is accessible only by boat. A favorite is Wakulla Springs State Park, one of the world's deepest freshwater springs, with swimming, nature boat rides and glass bottom boats. Wakulla Springs is known as the filming location for several Tarzan movies, Creature from the Black Lagoon and Airport '77. From the river boat and glass bottom boat tours, you can see alligators, many species of wading birds, water fowl, fish, turtles, and snakes, in and among the crystal clear waters emerging from the depth of the springs. Kids love diving from the diving platform into the refreshing spring waters, which remain a constant 68-70 degrees year round. The St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge offers a habitat for all kinds of Florida wildlife. Smarter Travel recently voted the refuge as one of the top 10 wildlife refuges in America. At this swampy wildlife refuge, alligators can reach lengths of 14 feet. It's unusual not to spot them here in the marshes along the road to the 1832 St. Marks Lighthouse on Apalachee Bay. Photographers say the lighthouse is the best place to snap shots of hordes of monarch butterflies during the butterflies' annual migration in October. Whooping cranes and more than 300 other bird species stop over at St. Marks, and 98 species nest on-site. In May, watch for large groups of West Indian manatees in the waters near the lighthouse. Baby alligators emerge from nests in August. Keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles. So the guys want to go fishing and you ladies don't ... NO PROBLEM! While they are catching speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, grouper, redfish (the list goes on), you can visit historic Apalachicola. Once a bustling sea port, this quaint village of about 5,000 still boasts a large shrimp fleet, a downtown shopping area with antiques, boutiques and local art, and beautiful restored houses from a bygone era. Once the third largest cotton port along the Gulf Coast, the Apalachicola/East Point area still harvests and processes 90% of the oysters consumed in Florida. Locally caught seafood is prepared in the many fine restaurants located in Panacea, Carrabelle, and Apalachicola. If you prefer to cook it yourself, fresh shrimp, oysters, and the catch of the day are available in the seafood houses dotted along the coast from Panacea to Port St. Joe. *** Sorry, but we do not rent to anyone under the age of 25. ***

Fishing: For the fisherman, the fishing is as good as it gets and there is an assortment of USCG licensed captains that will be more than willing to book a charter and take you out into the bay for a fishing experience that you will never forget. We have year round fishing, with different species here at different times. Trout and redfish are the most sought after fish and can be caught all year long. Tarpon are here from June till August, and cobia will show up in the early spring as the water warms and will stay until fall. Other fish that may be caught on the flats are Spanish Mackerel, blue fish, sheepshead, flounder, ladyfish and a numerous variety of sharks to 250 pounds. Many prefer to head out for deeper waters to catch grouper and snapper. Golf: For the golfer, Wildwood Country Club is a beautiful public golf course located on Hwy. 98 in Medart (less than 10 minute drive). Tennis: For the tennis buff, there are 6 lighted tennis courts across the street from the golf course at Wakulla High School on Hwy. 98 in Medart. Paradise Village also has a tennis court. Biking: Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail stretches about 20.5 miles from Tallahassee south to St. Marks. Longleaf pine and forests of oak, wax myrtle and yaupon holly nicely shade the route. The trail is wide and smooth, with occasional restrooms and benches along the rural stretches. Hiking: There are many nature trails to choose from, along with some paved trails. St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge and all of the state parks have hiking trails. Be sure to take bug spray, unless you are hiking in the wintertime. Nearby state parks include Wakulla Springs, Bald Point, San Marcos de Apalache, and Ochlockonee River. Birding & Wildlife: If you have come looking for the call of the wild, then you come to the right place. With vast acres of undeveloped lands and protected wildlife sanctuaries, our natural areas support an unbelievable abundance of wildlife with verified counts of over 300 species of migratory and nesting birds; 52 species of mammals such as the West Indian manatee and Florida black bear; 40 species of amphibians, and 65 species of reptiles. Windsurfing: Shell Point is also great place for windsurfing and hosts several Regattas each year. Restaurants: For those who enjoy great seafood, Angelo's in Panacea (20 minutes away) is one of the finest renowned seafood restaurants anywhere - located right on the water. Nearby Spring Creek Restaurant (less than 10 minutes away) also boasts delicious seafood, including soft shell crab, along with a casual down-home atmosphere. Mad Anthony’s Waterfront Grille located on Dickerson Bay at the Rock Landing Marina in Panacea, FL offers some unique seafood dishes, craft beers, with tiki bar dining by the bay. Riverside Café in St. Marks and Ouzts Too in Newport have great food and often have weekend live entertainment. There are many other wonderful restaurants in our area. If you decide to rent with us, we will send you a list of all of the nearby restaurants, along with our personal rating on each one. Wakulla Springs (10 miles away): Wakulla Springs State Park, one of the largest fresh water springs in the world, is only 10 minutes away. Wakulla Springs was the site for filming the early Tarzan movies, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Airport 77. From the river boat and glass bottom boat tours, you can see alligators, many species of water fowl, fish, turtles, snakes, and deer, in and among the crystal clear waters emerging from the depth of the springs. They also have a swimming area, with a diving platform. Kids love it and you will, too. The water stays the same temperature all year round. It's very refreshing in the heat of the summertime. Lighthouses & St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge: The St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge (15 minutes away), which features the St. Marks Lighthouse, offers a habitat for all kinds of Florida wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles. There are 3 other lighthouses along our Forgotten Coast --- Crooked River Lighthouse in Carrabelle, St. George Island Lighthouse on St. George Island and Cape San Blas Lighthouse in Port St. Joe. Beaches: For the beach enthusiast, nearby beaches include St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park and St. George's Island, which are regularly voted into the top ten beaches in the world (an hour to an hour and a half drive). Shell Point Beach is about a block from Noah's Place. It is a very, very small beach located on the bay, which means that the only waves that you will see will be on a very windy day. It doesn't compare to the other two beaches mentioned earlier, but it is very convenient and a great place to kick back and enjoy the abundant wildlife in and surrounding the bay, along with breathtaking sunsets. Other nearby beaches include Mashes Sands Beach (which has a fishing pier), Alligator Point Beach (25 miles) and Carrabelle Beach (40 miles). House (2429 sq. ft.) in Panacea, FL
0 miles from Apalachee Bay
Bayside Retreat, Panacea, FL on Ochlockonee Bay This is truly the good life! Live like a king in our luxurious 4 bedroom, 3 bath home located on Ochlockonee Bay, 40 miles south of Tallahassee off Hwy. 98. The house has gorgeous top-of-the-line features (such as hardwood floors and granite kitchen counters) and is lavishly furnished. But that's not the best part! The best part is our million dollar view of Ochlockonee Bay from almost every room in the house, along with our convenient location to great fishing, remarkable golfing, out-of-this-world seafood, and some gorgeous beaches! We offer approximately 2,500 sq. ft. of spacious living area. Skip the steps, and take a ride on our elevator to enter each level of the house. On our first floor, take your pick from 3 bedrooms (1 king, 1 queen, double bunk (double on bottom / twin on top) & 1 double sleeper sofa) and 2 bathrooms, which adjoin a large open porch running the entire length of the house and shaded by the upstairs porch. The second floor contains the kitchen, dining room, living room, king-size master bedroom and master bathroom. This area is adjacent to a large screened-in porch that also runs the length of the house. Kick back and relax on either porch and watch the boats come and go ... or, step right down to the dock and try your luck at fishing. You will be so comfortable and relaxed here, that you will never want to go home! Our accommodations will sleep 9 to 11 people comfortably. Perfect for any size family or group of friends! The fishing is as good as it gets in this area. You can fish in the bay, head out for deep-sea fishing, or go down the river for fresh water fishing. We have it all!!! If you bring your boat, you can launch it nearby and then tie it to the pilings of the dock for the rest of your stay. Since the dock is stationary, the owner will leave his jet ski lift remote for you to get down to your boat. If you don't have a boat, you can book a fishing charter with your choice of licensed captains, who are ready to take you for an experience that you won't soon forget! For the golfer, St. James Bay is about 15 miles away on Hwy. 98 in Carrabelle. This 18-hole championship course, with its perfectly manicured fairways and scenic golf paths, blends seamlessly and in complete harmony with acres of wetland preserve, abundant wildlife and unspoiled forest. The course creates a challenge for even the most skillful golfer, yet it's still a course golfers of all abilities seem to love. And, of course, there are the beaches. The closest beach is Mashes Sands (about 2 miles). It offers a beautiful, small beach and a fishing pier. The beach is located on the bay and it's calm shallow waters offer safety for small children and a great opportunity for shelling. Wakulla Springs is known as the shooting location for several Tarzan movies, Creature from the Black Lagoon and Airport '77. The St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge features the St. Marks lighthouse, and offers a habitat for all kinds of Florida wildlife. (Bald eagles are often spotted here - so keep your eyes peeled!) So the guys want to go fishing or golfing and you ladies don't ...NO ROBLEM! You can visit historic Apalachicola. Joe. Driving Directions: Take US 319 south from Tallahassee. At the intersection with US 98 take a right. Follow US 98 until you come to the Ochlockonee Bay Bridge. Turn right before the bridge. We are about a mile down the road on the left.

Marks. Beaches: For the beach enthusiast, nearby beaches include St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park and St. George's Island, which are regularly voted into the top ten beaches in the world (an hour to an hour and a half drive). Shell Point Beach is about a block from Already Gone. It is a very, very small beach located on the bay, which means that the only waves that you will see will be on a very windy day. Shell Point Beach is about 1/2 block from Dock of the Bay. Gulf Specimen Marine Lab: For a close-up, hands-on examination of marine life, check out Gulf Specimen Marine Lab in Panacea, which is 20 minutes away. Tallahassee Museum: The Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science is about 30 minutes away, and offers a look at Florida’s wildlife in a natural setting. Maclay Gardens: Maclay Gardens is located on Thomasville Road in Tallahassee (40 miles away). A masterpiece of floral architecture, the gardens feature a picturesque brick walkway, a secret garden, a reflection pool, a walled garden and hundreds of camellias and azaleas. Tallahassee & Shopping: Only 30 minutes from Shell Point, Tallahassee has all of the conveniences of a big city – malls restaurants, museums, parks, airport – and is well known for being the home of Florida State University (FSU) and Florida A&M University (FAMU). Other, more unique shopping can be found at Apalachicola, which is about an hour drive. *** Sorry, we do not rent to anyone under that age of 25 ***

Would you like to visit a place where you have the chance to observe otters, squirrels, alligators, deer, raccoons, woodpeckers, blue herons, hummingbirds, cormorants, fish, and many other species of Florida wildlife in their natural habitats? And, you can do this from the comfort and safety of an observation deck or dock over the river. If you prefer, you can just sit on the screened porch overlooking the beautiful St. Marks River and soak up the peaceful solitude of a completely unspoiled environment. As the sun goes down, you will be captivated by the rhythmic melodies of the frogs and crickets, guaranteed to soothe your soul. To find out how our guests who have been on the tours enjoyed their trip, please read about them in our guest comments. Hope you will give them a call and take advantage of this special opportunity while staying at the Retreat. Happy paddling!! Guest Comments This is our second stay here and we know we will be back again. We so appreciate the beauty and natural setting of this place. In our two visits here, we have enjoyed seeing deer, owls (right outside our windows) and numerous Florida birds hanging out on the river. Our hosts Floyd and Carolyn were attentive and available to our needs. The Seinyard restaurant has definitely become one of our favorite places to eat (awesome food) and we make sure we visit it every time we are blessed enough to come back to visit. Thank you Floyd and Carolyn for sharing your Retreat Joe and Debra Lutz, Florida This place is amazing! We have fallen in love with the breathtaking and extremely relaxing environment. The jumping fish were hysterical! However, the cows walking in the river topped the fish. The house was perfect and had every thing we needed. Thank you so much for an amazing weekend. We will be back! Cory & Amber Well, what can we say except the location was superb. The interior design is a testament to all your hard work and imagination. Spotlessly clean. So tranquil and relaxing sitting on the dock in the morning. The beds are some of the most comfortable we have had the pleasure to sleep in. The nighttime chorus (of the crickets and frogs) is something we will always remember. Great fun trying to catch the uncooperative mullet in the river, but we did catch one at the Seinyard restaurant and it was mind blowing. So, Floyd and Carolyn, thank you very much for a wonderful Retreat. “Haste ye back” Martin & Julia Edinburg, Scotland What an awesome experience! Our accommodations were unsurpassable, and, to say the least, our trip was a success. Now that we found you it goes without saying you’ll be stuck with us and our soon-to-be FSU student. We’ll be seeing you again. Elise & Larry Coral Springs, Florida We really enjoyed our stay at the St. Marks Retreat. We paddled our canoes on the St. Marks, Sopchoppy, Wacissa and Aucilla rivers. All lovely. Tons of birds, otters, alligators and turtles. We also went hiking at Leon Sinks and biking on the St. Marks Trail. This cabin is delightful- quiet, peaceful and very clean. There are more rivers and trails to enjoy, so we will be back. Lois, John & Jocelyn Traverse City, Michigan Floyd, it has been a pleasure meeting you and staying at the St. Marks Retreat. After working 11 years in the hotel industry, I have to say this is the cleanest and one of the best decorated properties I have ever seen. The nature and river next to the Retreat is good for mind, soul and body. The St. Marks Retreat is the Best! Robert and Family Jacksonville, Florida This was our first sort of wilderness vacation, and the Retreat didn’t let us down. Very serene and relaxing. Spotted a very large owl outside the cabin (approximately 2 ½ feet tall)- very wild and scruffy looking. We saw many deer on the road coming in and more up close in the wildlife refuge. We also spotted a black bear in the Apalachicola National Forest. We enjoyed the good fresh seafood at the Seinyard Restaurant. The cabin was indeed clean, quaint and comfortable. The location and atmosphere proved to be the natural and relaxing stetting we desired. Ted & Cindy Cape Coral, Florida What a wonderful vacation! This cabin is so cozy. Everything was clean and comfortable. We had a great honeymoon here. Thank you for the fruit, snacks, coffee and hot chocolate. That was a nice treat. We will be back. Take care and God bless you both. Dustin & Naomi What a lovely place. Everything was very nice. You’ve taken the time to make this a truly neat visit. Our children enjoyed netting the fish and playing in the water. Saw lots of birds, spiders, fish, deer. I even got up extra early just to enjoy the peaceful setting. Enjoyed the surrounding area, Wakulla Springs (saw a manatee), the lighthouse, the town of St. Marks. Thanks again. We will recommend this place, and we will be back. Our son says this is our new Florida home. Al, Marcy, Ally & Natalie Harrison, MI Thank you so much for this amazing experience. This was the best anniversary we have ever had. We saw all sorts of wildlife and relaxed more than we’ve been able to in a long time. We really look forward to coming back. We can’t thank you enough for everything. Jessica & Terry Thanks for letting us stay here for our 25th anniversary. The house is just the right size for us, and the surroundings are fabulous. We love this area. We even caught and ate scallops. We saw an abundance of wildlife. Sincerely, Liz, Mike & Jessica Keywords: Cabin

The unspoiled waters and beaches, including those directly in front of your beachfront retreat, Soul Happy, are valuable feeding, breeding and nesting grounds for these and other sea turtles. If you fancy winged things, then enjoy Mother Nature’s spectacular show from the privacy of your cozy “Old Florida” beach house as you witness the annual Fall migration of raptors and monarch butterflies. Many varieties of butterflies, and birds including the American bald eagle, are commonly seen stopping among the vegetation of Soul Happy’s large and inviting ½ acre of yard and native vegetation. Only 5 minutes away is the 4065 acre Bald Point State Park, which has a diverse coastal eco-system popular as a birding and wildlife viewing destination. Only 15 minutes away from Soul Happy is the 68,000 acre St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1931 to provide wintering habitat for migratory birds with acreage across three Florida counties. The St. Marks lighthouse, built in 1832, is still in use today. In fact, a trail of 5 historical lighthouses may be visited along a 2 hour tour of the forgotten coast. If salt water runs in your veins, then you will be happy to know that this particular corner of the Forgotten Coast is teaming with sea life. Our waters offer a wonderful playground for boating and fishing enthusiasts. Numerous public and private landings provide easy access to the oceans, bays, rivers and harbors of this area. If golfing is your passion, a short 10 minute drive up the road will land you at the world class golf course of St. James Bay. Another nearby golf course is Wildwood Golf Club, located in Wakulla County. A wide array of restaurants are located nearby at Ochlockonee Bay, St. Teresa Beach, Carrabelle, St. James Bay, and even a few hundred yards away at the Alligator Point Marina. From Soul Happy, you’re close to everything! So do nothing, or do everything…. it’s totally up to you. Soul Happy offers timeless charm! Step back to a simpler era at the beach where you can still enjoy all the comforts of today. This beach retreat truly offers a coastal experience the way a Florida beach vacation was meant to be! The Watsons would love to host your family at Soul Happy on beautiful Alligator Point. Soul Happy offers you an incredible beachfront value for your money! We’d love for you to be our guest and make Soul Happy your own special vacation beach home. Create lifelong memories. You’ll be so happy you discovered our quaint beach house that it will make your soul happy. Glenn Smith-Property Manager (During hurricane season storms can sometimes develop within 24 hours. Beautifully decorated in ocean colors, both bedrooms enjoy gorgeous natural light. Surrounded by beauty such as this, you’ll want to spend time just sitting and staring and taking it all in. Or lie in the hammock and gaze up at the tall pines as the gentle lap of the waves lulls you into a much-needed nap. Go a few more steps to your own beach deck with chairs and umbrella. Collect shells and explore living sea animals as you stroll the beach from Grassy Point to Stingray Point. Go fishing or cast a net off the dock or scoop up some blue crabs. Use the two kayaks provided to explore the area by water. If you find you can’t entirely tear yourself away from civilization, the family room provides a Smart TV and DVD player with a variety of family movies. There is an additional TV upstairs in the master bedroom. Internet is provided. Legasea is right on the Gulf of Mexico, but is protected by a sandspit which extends from Alligator Point, so the waves are always gentle. This makes it perfect for swimming, fishing, kayaking, and beachcombing. On a natural beach on the “Forgotten Coast” of the Gulf of Mexico far from crowds and commercialization, the area around St. Teresa provides one of the most diverse eco-systems in North America. You may see dolphins, manatees, the exotic local white squirrels, and even the occasional Florida black bear, not to mention every kind of shore bird you can imagine. Legasea is located within the Bay North gated community, which contains its own swimming pool, tennis courts, and plenty of open space in which the kids can play if they tire of the beach. The children’s laughter as they play outside all day will take you back to when this was “Camp Weed,” a summer church camp. When you visit Legasea, you’ll know that you’re in a truly unique place, and will understand why St. Teresa has been the most beloved spot in the world for generations of families.

The area has abundant wildlife. Seasonal sightings include ruby-throated hummingbirds, ospreys, bald eagles, pleated woodpeckers, swallow-tailed kites, great blue herons, white pelicans, turkeys, and flocks of iron head storks. In the river, teeming with fish, we've also seen manatees, otters, and porpoises. All around in the forest raccoon, deer, fox, coyotes, bobcats, and wild boar abound. It’s a short hop up to Tallahassee, just 45 minutes; to Perry it’s 20 minutes. About 30 minutes away is the village of St. Marks, on the St. Marks River where it converges with the crystal clear Wakulla River. At the headwaters of the Wakulla River, twenty minutes away, is the Wakulla Springs Lodge State Park, a “river boat adventure” tour, swimming, dining, and lodging. For your convenience, JR’s Aucilla River Store is within 5 miles at the US 98 bridge. You will walk the same trails of our ancestors from the Pleistocene era. For hiking, about three miles from the house, a segment of the Florida Trail runs east and west through the forest of the National Wildlife Refuge. It parallels US 98, then turns north up the Aucilla River basin through the many sinkholes to the upper run. That segment has white water rapid canoeing. You can enjoy a half-day pristine canoe or fishing trip from the headwaters of the Wacissa River merging with the Aucilla River’s lower run ending at the house. Nearby recreational areas include Hickory Mound Impoundment, especially good for birding, Goose Pasture Recreational Area for canoeing and picnicking, and the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge for scenic beauty and abundant wildlife.
